What Birth Baddies Believe

What we Subscribe to

We believe the Mother to be the Authority of her birth experience, and that a mother's intuition is worth its weight in gold.

We believe in true Informed Consent, which requires us to assess the bias of providers - potentially weighing their fears against our own.

We believe Unmedicated Birth to be a gift in many cases, & recognize the power it has to change us.

We believe in Birthing with Palms Open: accepting the sensations, and navigating curveballs as they arise.

We believe every trial in Motherhood to be an opportunity for expansion.

We believe mothers have more power in pregnancy than led to believe, and healthy diets and lifestyles can lead to better birth experiences.

We believe your birth day is the LAST place to be a people pleaser, & you don't need permission to birth YOUR way.

We believe strongly in the physiological processes of undisturbed, unwatched birth.

We believe all birth is magical & birth prep to be FUN!

Birthy Myths we simply DON'T Subscribe to

"All the matters is a healthy mom, healthy baby."

Mothers deserve to dream big & demand better regarding their birth experiences. This is a baseline, foundational belief of ALL birth experiences and does not help anyone to say or hear.

"You're in my hospital room." & "That's against hospital policy."

Mothers remain the authority on birth decisions outside of true emergencies, and hospital policy is designed for hospital staff (not you) to follow. You are allowed to decline routine hospital procedures. Understanding the benefits & risks to each routine procedure will help you determine what you want or need.

"Women with low pain tolerance can't have natural labors."

Labor sensations have far less to do with pain and pain tolerance than they do with mental fortitude, conviction, rest, patience, & ability to regulate in labor.

"There's no way to prepare for labor."

While contractions may be an unexpected feeling, birth baddies can prepare with education, practice, and mental & emotional work ahead of labor!

"You don't get a trophy for an unmedicated birth."

Trophies for unmedicated birth can include: climaxes of euphoria at baby's arrival due to the rush of hormones; babies that are born alert & with lower need of assistance; infants who can breastfeed easier from avoiding the effects of a long-term epidural; the ability to walk to the bathroom to urinate or deliver a placenta; newfound pride for making it past the self-doubts of transition, & more!

"Home birth is right for everyone."

Choosing where you'll birth is one of the most important decisions you will make in pregnancy, and you should only birth where you feel entirely safe. Do you feel safer with providers who sit on their hands during your labor, or with monitors wrapped around your belly? Some women will inherently feel safer at hospitals while others will feel that at home. If you choose home birth, be sure to learn about your responsibility to remain low risk.

"A woman follows the birthing patterns of her mother lineage."

While there can be some similarities, your mother's birth does NOT define yours. You are invited to change cycles, to bring new experiences into your maternal line, & to birth YOUR way.

"Childbirth pain is a curse, and pointless with modern medicine."

One of the most powerful walks you may experiences is through the flames of childbirth. We invite the intensities to change us, allowing parts of ourselves to die in the past - carving room for growth & our beloved attributes to take space in the next chapter of motherhood.
